Governor Bentley Requests Additional Counties to Receive Federal Assistance Due to Hurricane Isaac | News

Clanton – Governor Robert Bentley on Tuesday submitted a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency requesting a Public Assistance declaration for five additional counties affected by Hurricane Isaac.  The request was based upon the completion of additional damage assessments following the storm.  Estimates project nearly $2.5 million worth of damage in Covington, Dallas, Geneva, Monroe and Perry Counties.

Public Assistance for those counties would provide disaster grant assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged, publicly-owned facilities and the facilities of certain Private Non-Profit (PNP) organizations.

“Hurricane Isaac had a significant impact on much of Alabama, including many of our rural counties. Damage assessments completed this week show that many communities need additional resources as they recover from the impact of flooding and other severe weather caused by Isaac,” Governor Robert Bentley said. “We are hopeful this request will be approved as part of our continued efforts to help communities recover from the storm.”

Public Assistance was approved on September 21 for Baldwin, Mobile and Pickens Counties.
